Argos toys slump dents Sainsbury’s Christmas sales

Poor performance at Sainsbury’s-owned chain offsets resilient grocery sales

Poor sales of toys and video games dented Argos’s performance over Christmas as the chain’s owner, Sainsbury’s, said nervous shoppers were holding on to their cash.

Sales of general merchandise at the group slid nearly 4% in the 15 weeks to 4 January.
